Enchant: The Art of Sword Enchanting

In gaming and internet culture, "enchanting the sword" (给剑附魔) has long been a fond euphemism for... well, a very particular solitary activity.
Most people leave it as an online meme. But if you stop and think like an engineer, modern smartwatches are packed with world-class telemetry: high-frequency inertial sensors, accelerometers, and photoplethysmography heart-rate sensors. In theory, an Apple Watch is the ultimate device to track your rhythm, pulse, and stamina.
In practice, trying to track this with existing apps is a social landmine. Launching a standard workout app risks logging an awkward "12-minute Elliptical Session" at 2:00 AM—promptly broadcasted to your friends and coworkers on the Apple Fitness leaderboard.
Enchant is the answer: a tongue-in-cheek, beautifully crafted, and strictly private activity journal for Apple Watch (watchOS 10+) and iPhone (iOS 17+). It takes an unspoken habit and wraps it in a retro RPG aesthetic: you start with a plain iron sword, perform the ritual, and emerge with a gleaming, enchanted blade—all while keeping your data strictly on your own wrist.

The Enchanting Ritual
- The Plain Blade: Launch the app on your wrist or phone. A humble, unadorned pixel blade greets you.
- Hands-Free Auto-Detection: Let’s face it, nobody wants to fumble with touchscreens in the heat of the moment. With Auto Mode enabled, the Watch monitors wrist acceleration in the background while open. Detect a steady, continuous rhythm for ~3 seconds? The timer quietly begins.
- Biometrics Without the Social Suicide: During the session, Enchant tracks live heart rate and estimates motion cycles using a 20Hz attitude-compensated hysteresis filter. But when you finish, the temporary HealthKit workout session is immediately discarded (
discardWorkout()). Zero workout entries ever touch your Apple Health activity rings or get shared on social leaderboards. - The Enchanted Blade: Once finished, your plain sword transforms into a radiant, sparkling enchanted blade. A gratifying reward for your efforts.
- The Spellbook: Your session is inscribed into your personal Grimoire (Spellbook). Review your duration, peak and average heart rate, estimated strokes, and optionally jot down a note or link.
The Three Relics
The visual language leans into an obsidian-purple night palette (#110D1B background, #211A30 surface, #57E0CD arcane teal, #AE78F6 magic purple, and #F2CA6B gold) with custom pixel sprites and retro bitmap fonts (Fusion Pixel and Silkscreen).

Plain Blade The quiet before the storm. Idle, unadorned, and waiting for an enchantment.

Enchanted Blade Infused with arcane power. Glows with purple stardust upon a completed session.

Spellbook The private grimoire. Houses your calendar, heart-rate curves, and secret notes.
Dual-Device Walkthrough
Enchant divides duties based on what each device excels at: the Apple Watch is built for instant wrist action, while the iPhone serves as your private lounge for reflection.

1. Home & Instant Start — An un-enchanted blade awaits on both devices. Tap to begin on your watch, or view monthly stats on iPhone.

2. Active Session — Real-time timer, current heart rate, and estimated stroke count with comfortable 44pt touch controls.

3. Quest Completed — The blade glows. Stats are finalized, the workout session is thrown away from Apple Health, and you can add a quick note.

4. Spellbook & Calendar — Browse historical enchantments via a 2-line list on your watch, or a full month/year calendar with search on iPhone.

5. The Climax in Data — Three-page pager on Watch and full heart-rate graph on iPhone, cleanly showing pauses and peak excitement.

6. Preferences & Safe Trash — Toggle Auto Mode, Sound, or Haptics from a 2×2 tile grid. Deleted records stay in Trash until permanently purged.
Paranoia-Grade Privacy
Because of the intimate nature of the app, privacy isn't an afterthought—it's the core architecture:
- No Cloud Accounts, No Telemetry: There is no server, no user login, no analytics, and no third-party tracking.
PrivacyInfo.xcprivacydeclares only standard localUserDefaults. - Zero Apple Health Pollution: HealthKit is queried strictly in real-time for pulse reading. The moment the session ends, the workout builder is dumped. No workouts will ever appear in the Health app or be shared with friends.
- Offline Paired Sync: Records sync peer-to-peer between your Apple Watch and iPhone via
WatchConnectivity. You don't even need an active internet connection. - Accidental Deletion Protection: Moving a record to Trash immediately hides it from your monthly tallies, but allows instant recovery. Permanent deletion requires explicit, non-glass confirmation.
Wrap-Up
Enchant is built entirely in native Swift and SwiftUI with a shared EnchantCore library, zero external packages, and 26 automated unit tests validating state transitions, motion hysteresis, and sync conflict resolution.
It takes a private habit, strips away the guilt, and replaces it with pixel nostalgia and clean biometrics. Keep your sword sharp, and happy enchanting.
